The 2008-2010 WIAA Classifications were finalized by the WIAA Executive Board on
January 27, 2008. Member schools have been placed into one of the six classifications
by percentage:
2008-2010 Enrollment Ranges:
4A Schools: Enrollment Range = 1281+
3A Schools: Enrollment Range = 919-1280
2A Schools: Enrollment Range = 468-918
1A Schools: Enrollment Range = 188-467
2B Schools: Enrollment Range = 88-187
1B Schools: Enrollment Range = 0-87
2008-2010: 33 schools have declared to opt-up to
a higher classification (of 411 schools)
Final tally by classification:
4A Schools: 78
3A Schools: 68
2A Schools: 55
1A Schools: 63 + 5 non-counting** schools = 68 schools
2B Schools: 66 + 6 non-counting** schools = 72 schools
1B Schools: 59 + 11 non-counting** schools = 70 schools
2006-2008: 34 schools
have declared to opt-up to a higher classification (of 400 schools)

1A Schools: 64 + 4 non-counting** schools = 68 schools
2B Schools: 63 + 3 non-counting** schools = 66 schools
1B Schools: 55 + 12 non-counting** schools = 67 schools
**Note: Non-counting schools are the 22 member schools
that were not included in the percentages because they do not access post-season
play, they have no athletics, they do not meet the WIAA separate alternative high
school definition or they do not field at least one team sport outside of a combibned
program.
The WIAA staff thanks all the member schools for their
timely reporting of information that made the classification process go very smoothly
this year.
